HI, I’m jamie
I love clay. I love the damp musky smell. I love the way it feels in my hands and sticks to my fingers. I love the way it humbles me. I love that the same material in different forms can be anything from a surface texture to a drinking vessel to a shelter.
I was blessed with a Blue Ridge Mountain childhood, home to some of the richest clay deposits in North America, which is where I first experienced the joy found elbow deep in buckets of mud.
Clay has been the most consistent thread in my life and I’ve had the honor of learning from many potters over the years. Of all the skills I’ve picked up along the way, it was my college ceramics professors obsession with the shape of a cups rim that stuck with me the most. To this day I will fiddle around with the rim of a cup until I know he’d allow me to keep that vessel.
Today I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains which is where SHED was first established. I prefer to throw a red clay body, mostly out of respect to that iron rich Blue Ridge Mountain clay that made me fall in love with dirt all those years ago.
Thanks for stopping by and if you have a question about the availability of any work feel free to drop me a line.
It really is all for the love of clay.
